Dakota &8220Cody&8221 Tyler Obituary (1973

Dakota "Cody" Tyler, aka Dennis Wayne Chubin, age 47, of West Chicago, passed away at home in his sleep on April 11, 2021. He was born April 12, 1973 in Schaumburg, IL to his loving parents, Edward and Bonnie Chubin (nee Snider). Cody started out working at a young age. He enjoyed working at the Hoffman Estates Bowling Lanes and other various clerk positions, but his real passion was real estate. His Aunt Betty was his mentor and one of his first investors; with her help, he was able to purchase his first home at the age of 19. He also partnered with his father, Edward, in All Trades Construction, where he learned how to work on government contracts and commercial and residential units. Cody used his first property to "buy up" and continued to do so. Using his experiences to learn and grow, he became the Founder and President of West Star Homes, LLC, an established company that has rehabbed over 200 buildings and currently holds eight properties that are a blend of single-family and multi-unit buildings. Cody displayed a fearless attitude and achieved success in everything he attempted. He and his life-partner of over 14 years, Paul Schmolke, were active in the restoration of many Victorian homes in Elgin, IL. He was wonderful support to Paul in Paul's win for the City of Elgin Mayor's Award in 2011 for preservation and restoration of one of Elgin's finest Victorian homes. Cody was a supporter and sponsor of several non-profits, including NHS of Fox Valley and Neighborworks Days, as well as many other community projects. He fully supported first time homeownership and collaborated Realtors with The Kane County Down Payment Assistant Program to help establish homeownership in Elgin's at-risk areas. This allowed Cody to help numerous families become first time homeowners, as well as helping many investors get their start. Cody became a well-known leader in the community. He was featured in many newspaper articles, plus the National Register's "Who's Who" in Executives and Professional, 2004 Edition, one of his most treasured professional achievements. Most recently, Cody was instrumental in the formation of a collaboration with a local parent support group to help distress parents get back on their feet and into safe housing. Cody was an avid New Orleans Saints Fan. Drew Brees was his favorite quarterback, and Donald Trump was his favorite President. Cody enjoyed being out on his jet skis, loved camping, trips to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, bowling, hosting legendary parties, spending time with his family and friends (friends who have become family). He also loved great adventures with friends, enjoying beautiful road trips in his RV, and camping with his family. Kindness means different things to different people. The meaning is in how you choose to show it. Cody showed kindness through empathy, forgiveness, acceptance, kind gestures, and thoughtfulness. People should remember how much he loved his parents and family. He was beyond devoted to his father, providing care for Edward until Edward's final day. Cody loved being an uncle, the joy he had spoiling his nieces, camping and spending the holidays with them. Any free time he could get, he would make the journey to see them. He also loved spending time with his cousins, traveling near and far to see them. And Cody was dedicated to his life partner, Paul; no one could say differently. Paul was Cody's rock, his voice of reason. Cody was loved by so many people; his smile, sense of humor, his laughter was heartfelt. His love for life will be greatly missed! Cody was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his life partner, Paul Schmolke; siblings, Cary (Barbara) Chubin, Wayne (Mare) Chubin, and Crissy (Neil) Uher; and nieces, Barry, Alyssa, Madison, and Leah. A memorial will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Mourners are encouraged to review the funeral home COVID-19 public health policies ahead of time. Face masks are required to enter the facility.
